Pupil Premium
Pupil Premium at St Barnabas CE First & Middle School
Each year, our school receives additional government funding known as the Pupil Premium Grant. This funding is provided to help schools improve the educational outcomes of children who may be facing disadvantage.
What is the Pupil Premium?
The Pupil Premium is extra money given to schools based on the number of pupils who:
-
Are currently eligible for Free School Meals (FSM),
-
Have received FSM at any point in the last six years (known as “Ever 6”),
-
Are looked after or previously looked after by the local authority, or
-
Have a parent serving in the armed forces.
This funding is designed to help close the gap between these pupils and their peers, ensuring that all children—whatever their background—have the best possible opportunities to achieve and thrive.
How We Use the Funding
At St Barnabas, we use our Pupil Premium funding to make a real difference to children’s learning and wellbeing. Our priorities for 2025–26 focus on:
-
Improving outcomes in reading by increasing parental engagement and promoting a love of books both at school and at home.
-
Providing high-quality teaching and targeted support, ensuring that every child can access and enjoy the curriculum.
-
Supporting emotional wellbeing and inclusion, helping children develop confidence, resilience, and positive learning behaviours.
-
Removing barriers to learning through access to enrichment opportunities, additional tuition, and personalised pastoral care.
All spending decisions are carefully planned, evidence-based, and regularly reviewed to make sure funding is used effectively.
Our Impact
We monitor the progress of all Pupil Premium pupils closely to ensure that the support we provide is making a measurable difference in both academic outcomes and personal development. Governors receive regular reports on the impact of the funding, and we publish an annual Pupil Premium Evaluation (of the previous year) and Pupil Premium Strategy Statement detailing our plans and progress. Both of these documents can be found below.
