Keeping Safe Online
Filtering & Monitoring
As a school, we use a strong filtering and monitoring system. Filtering and monitoring are essential online safety measures that use software to block harmful content (filtering) and track user activity for potential issues (monitoring). Mrs E Whetham and Mrs L Reeder monitor this regularly to ensure St Barnabas CE First and Middle School provides a safe space for the online world.
Internet Safety
All children receive internet safety lessons during school time. Please see below some helpful bits of information which may be useful to parents/ carers.
Cyberbullying
With an ever-increasing use of technology, it is important for children to learn about cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is the use of electronic technology, such as smartphones, computers, and gaming consoles, to harass, threaten, humiliate, or target another person. It involves sending or posting harmful, negative, or false content about someone else, including messages, images, videos, and rumours, often spread across social media, apps, forums, and gaming platforms. Unlike traditional bullying, cyberbullying can be anonymous, reach a wide audience quickly, and be difficult to escape, making it especially damaging and potentially a form of criminal behaviour.
Cyberbullying is covered as part of our Computing and PSHE curriculum.
Any reported incidents or individual cases are dealt with using the Anti-Bullying Policy.
